The Development Control Committee at Shepway District Council in Kent has voted by 15 votes to 1 to support the planning application by BRNG Renewables for a 18MW solar farm at Old Romney. The Planning Committee Chairman also congratulated the company on a well thought out and environmentally sensitive proposal.
The utility-scale project will be constructed on approximately 120 acres of land at Sycamore Farm and will consist of around 73,000 solar panels, each of which has a capacity of 245 watts.
“We have worked proactively to incorporate feedback from stakeholders and local residents into our plans and have had positive feedback on the application as a result, with fewer than 10 letters of objection” said Tom Brinicombe, Programme Manager at BRNG in an interview with the BBC. “We remain committed to ensuring that as well as generating a significant amount of renewable energy, this project will also be well-screened and will increase local biodiversity. We hope to commence construction in the near future and will remain available to local residents throughout the construction period.”
The Director at BNRG confirmed that the solar park will be one of the largest in the UK on a site which has been deemed to be ‘near perfect’ by the company due to its above average levels of solar irradiation and minimum visual impact.
