Worldwide PV cell production capacities have ramped up significantly in Asia in recent years. Both silicon-based PV and thin film cell production has increased tremendously in Asian countries particularly in China, Taiwan and Japan. Taiwan has experienced especially spectacular growth.
Whilst the sales market holds no great potential for downstream PV players because installations are limited to 70 MW in 2011 for example, upstream players are showing tremendous growth rates. One of the main reasons is the entry of multinational electronic companies in the PV market with large production outputs.
The greater importance of the Taiwanese PV industry is reflected by the expansion of the PV Taiwan trade fair and exhibition in Taipei. Compared to 2009, the 2010 edition grew by 25%. More than 11,000 visitors from 57 countries around the world visited the event. PV Taiwan 2011 starts today at the Taiwan International Convention Center and is sure to be just as well-visited.
The accompanying conference, PV Taiwan Forum, will be attended by Markus A.W. Hoehner, CEO at EuPD Research, who will offer an insight into the US market today.
In response to recent developments in Asia and their more prominent role from a global perspective, EuPD Research has announced the opening of a branch office in Taipei. According to the company, this move combined with a product portfolio that is customised to Asian markets and their specific environments will bring the market intelligence provider closer to its customers in these key PV markets.
