The reduction will last through the first quarter of the year. The temporary shutdown is expected to affect approximately 65 employees.
The suspension of the wafer production is the second announced by REC in the past six weeks. On 29 November 2011, the company announced a temporary halt to 60 percent of the production at its facility at Herøya, Norway.
After these adjustments REC expects to produce approximately 105 MW of multi- and monocrystalline wafers in Norway in the first quarter 2012.
The integrated wafer, cell and module facility in Singapore and the polysilicon facilities in the US continue to operate at full capacity, REC said in a written statement.
