REC has announced it will deliver 72MW of solar panels for the construction of six solar plants in Thailand’s Nakhon Pathom and Suphan Buri provinces. The panels will consist of 293,040 REC Peak Energy Series solar panels which will bring the number of REC’s large-scale installations in the country to seven. The plants will be owned and operated by Yanhee EGCO Holding with Italthai Engineering Co., Ltd. and Phoenix Solar Pte Ltd holding responsibility for engineering, procurement and construction.
“We have made dedicated efforts in recent years to strengthen our global solar business and to significantly expand our presence in growing markets like Southeast Asia” said Luc Graré, Senior Vice President Solar Sales and Marketing, REC. “We are glad to see that our efforts are now materializing.”
At present, around half of Thailand’s primary needs are met by energy imports and so the country is keen to have around 25 percent of its electricity demand generated by renewables by 2021. The SolarCo systems will feed around 57,000 megawatt hours (MWh) into Thailand’s power grid thereby reducing the country’s carbon footprint by almost 66,000 metric tons. The electricity will be sold on to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) under a Very Small Power Producer (VSPP) contract.
