Construction of the first 150 MW of capacity is due to start in September, while the remaining 250 MW will be installed during 2010.
Bulgaria is one of the countries targeted in Reflectia’s international expansion plan for forthcoming years and rightly so. According to the EurObserv’ER Barometer, at the end of 2008, Bulgaria was placed nineteenth among European countries in terms of cumulated PV capacity with just 1.4 MWp installed; only 0.18 Wp/inhabitant. This falls way short of the capacity per inhabitant installed in leading countries such as Spain (75 Wp/inhabitant) and Germany (65 Wp/inhabitant), suggesting there is considerable growth potential for the PV solar market in Bulgaria. Furthermore, according to the Visit Bulgaria website, the country boasts on average 30% more sunshine than Germany, meaning that Bulgaria could be the one to watch for in the future.
Reflectia, which is located in Zaragoza (Spain), is continuing to offer its Reflectia X5 investment product to a wide range of small and medium-sized investors in Spain, with the aim of making renewable energies part of society and enabling everyone to invest in them.
Reflectia’s move into this Eastern European state comes just eight months after Bulgaria’s first PV solar power plant was opened. Located southeast of the Bulgarian capital Sofia, in the town of Ihtiman near Paunovo, the Euros 4 million plant is expected to produce 1,250 MWh of energy per annum. It was financed by Intersol and was claimed at the time to be the largest of its kind in Eastern Europe. Construction and design of the plant was taken care of by Sun Service, while IBC Solar AG was enlisted as project consultant.
