The new solar power plant has a capacity of 102 kilowatts and was connected to Kosovo’s electricity network in March 2015. Rudis is aiming to treble the capacity of the plant, having already obtained approval to do so from the Kosovo Energy Regulatory Agency (ERO).
Mr Blerand Stavileci, the Minister for Economic Development, said in a speech that the Kosovo government and the Ministry supports the diversification of energy sources, particularly with regard to renewable energy and energy efficiency technology. The government is aiming for a target of 25 percent of the country’s electricity to be generated by renewables by 2020. The new plant is also intended as a model to other investors which the government is keen to support.
The General Director of Kosovo Electricity Distribution and Supply Company J.S.C (KEDS JSC), Mr George Karagutoff, added that this first solar power plant in the country will contribute to the development of local sources of energy, thereby enabling Kosovo to become more self-sufficient with regard to energy and emphasising its commitment to the development of renewable energy.
