SITEC installs one of Europe’s largest photovoltaic plants on an industrial building

Grupo Jover, a textile company which owns the new plant, will produce 830,000 kWh of electricity per year, reducing CO2 emissions by 500 tonnes yearly.

The company Solar Iniciativas Tecnológicas (Grupo SITEC) has completed the installation of Grupo JOVER’s photovoltaic solar energy plant, connected to the electricity network, in Concentaina (Alicante). This is the largest installation on an industrial building in the region of Valencia and one of the largest in Europe, thanks to an installed capacity of more than 600 kWp.

This industrial project will provide renewable solar energy, equivalent to 14% of the company’s total energy consumption and, therefore, it means an important step in the promotion of energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable development within the textile industry at an international level.

The expected production of the solar power plant installed at the company in Concentaina is 830,000 kWh per year, a production that will prevent the release of more than 500 tons per year of CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

JOVER’s photovoltaic plant is made up of 4,487 SCHÜCO photovoltaic modules with powers of 130 Wp, 165 Wp and 175 Wp and SIEMENS inverters.  The arrangement of modules has been designed by SITEC, following criteria that respect its integration into the architecture of the industrial plant, using structures with long-lasting materials and features as well as a panel surface of greater than 6,000m2.

The project consists of five installations located on different parts of the roof of Grupo JOVER’s facilities in Concentaina. The startup of the latest installations took place on the 23rd of May. Each of these installations has a panel surface of approximately 1,200 square metres and has between 800 and 900 modules, with a total of 4,487 panels that make up the 6,000 square metres of the installation.

In this way, SITEC, located in Ibi, continues its business strategy based on the installation of photovoltaic plants in the province’s most important companies. The aim is not only to make traditional industrial sectors meet the Kyoto Protocol’s guidelines but also to help these sectors find a new economic engine through the diversification of their services, in this case, by generating clean energy.

The installations carried out by Grupo SITEC during its two years of activity have a power of 2.5 megawatts. This is proof of the great interest that Alicante industries currently have in solar power. The company ended 2006 with a turnover of €7 million and has multiplied by four the number of its staff members since its creation. At present, it has 25 employees, including assembly technicians, engineers and administration staff.
