Solarcentury has announced the formation of a new joint venture with Momentous Energy in order to meet the increasing energy demands from businesses across Southern Africa. The new venture will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa and will work across the commercial roof, solar park and isolated grid markets.
Solarcentury Africa benefits from Solarcentury’s 15 year experience in the international solar sector alongside Momentous Energy’s local knowledge and expertise. The company will be well placed to offer a complete range of solar related services including development and finance, EPC and monitoring support.
Solarcentury is one of the world’s most well known and respected solar energy companies with a high profile which includes the recent completion of the award winning solar bridge at Blackfriars in London. Momentus Energy meanwhile is currently constructing one of the very first solar projects under the South African Department of Energy’s Independent Power Producers (IPP) programme consisting of a 7MW solar park covering 19 hectares of farmland in Rustenberg.
“Launching this joint venture with Momentous Energy means we’re ahead of the curve in being able to supply roof and ground installations to meet anticipated growing demand for solar energy from Southern African countries” said Frans van den Heuvel, Solarcentury CEO. “Solarcentury has installed solar on more types of roofs than any other company so we have the technical know-how and management experience to enable our customers to generate cost effective, stable and carbon-free electricity. The drive towards cost effective energy generation in Southern Africa is coming and Solarcentury Africa is ready for it.”
Solarcentury Africa has already completed its first project - a roof installation for a large property company and is also currently planning to install the largest solar roof-top system in South Africa in the coming months.
