The partnership will start to deliver systems in the second half of 2015, enabling customers to consume more of their own solar energy, reducing costs and providing access to backup power during outages. The Sonnenbatterie systems are highly sophisticated and incorporate Sony Fortelion lithium ion cells with 10,000 charge cycles.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction, we’re focused on providing our customers with the most proven and scalable energy storage solution available” said Peter Graf, Chief Product Officer, Sungevity. “Sonnenbatterie delivers a compelling extension of our solar energy system for new and existing customers alike.”
Customers who install the storage system will be able to bank any excess energy generated by their solar panels and store it for future use, including at night, during peak pricing hours or when there is a power outage.
Sonnenbatterie also provides commercial systems for small businesses, hotels and other uses. The company is based near Munich, Germany, and also has North American offices in Los Angeles, California. It has sold over 8,000 smart energy storage units for residential and commercial applications to date.
