SunWize Technologies Inc will be working with at least three other organisations to develop two major solar PV projects in a region of the Andes Mountains in the Republic of Ecuador. The projects will help the country to diversify its energy resources and promote energy efficiency among the Ecuadorian public.
Alongside SunWize Technologies, Solexica Energy Corporation, JCM Capital and Radical Energy Inc will be working as part of the consortium. The two projects, known as Condor Solar and Solarconnection, have a capacity of 30MW and 20MW respectively and will feature a combined total of 234,000 solar panels with multiple inverters and two substations.
“Photovoltaic solar energy doesn’t pollute air, soil or water, making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly choice for energy production worldwide” said Scott Ton, the CEO of SunWize. “As members of the North American Consortium, we look forward to providing the people of Ecuador with an energy resource that will serve them well in the years ahead.”
The projects will generate 200-400 temporary jobs during construction with 10-15 permanent jobs after completion. The projects are also predicted to eliminate some 47,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, representing the removal of 8,697 mid-size cars from Ecuadorian highways. They will be located in the Canton Pedro Moncayo area which offers abundant sunshine and will allow the panels to operate at their optimum efficiency. Because the projects are located near a number of tourist attractions, including the Mojanda stratovolcano, they will also serve as a model of sustainable energy use to visitors according to David Kaltsas, SunWize President and Chief Operating Officer.
