The firm, which is based in the California city of San Diego in the United States, received the order from Energy Innovations, a company located in the same community.
TEAL has delivered the initial units of a very high reliability and ruggedized grid-tied power supply for Energy Innovations' Sunflower™ highly concentrated photovoltaic (HCPV) tracking system.
The grid-tied power supply is a device designed to provide electrical power from the grid to the tracking system of a Solar Array until the Array begins producing power, at which point the power supply transitions off-line.
"TEAL Electronics is excited to partner with Energy Innovations, a leader in the HCPV market" said Don Klein, President of TEAL Electronics.
"TEAL has been a leading provider of OEM power subsystems for many years, primarily in the Medical Imaging, Semiconductor Test, and Defense-Aerospace markets,” he continued. “We have recently been focused on growing into the Solar Power market, and this initial win is exciting for the entire company. It is also very appealing to be developing a partnership with another San Diego based company."
Founded in 2001 at Idealab, Energy Innovations (EI) has pioneered the development of Highly Concentrated PV (HCPV) as a means to reduce the cost of solar energy.
Today, Energy Innovations has developed the world's highest concentration, most efficient and lowest cost HC PV system.
