Ted Turner goes solar

The super rich media tycoon, Chairman of the United Nations Foundation, the Turner Foundation, and Co-Chairman of the Nuclear Threat Initiative, announced yesterday that he would form a partnership with Dome-Tech Solar, a company based in New Jersey, to promote solar energy. When even billioners go solar, it definitely means that there is something important going on out there. The partnership created, which will be called DT Solar, will operate mainly (but not only) in California, as there are plenty of opportunities in the state after Governor Schwarzenegger set an ambitious capacity goal of 3,000 MW of solar energy to be installed by 2017. The financial details of the new deal will be released in the coming weeks. It is expected that the new company, just as Dome does today, focuses on developing large-scale solar energy systems for commercial, industrial and institutional clients.

"Our future depends on changing the way we use energy," Mr. Turner said in a statement. "We've got to move away from fossil fuels and develop long-term energy solutions that work. Using clean energy technologies, such as solar power, is the right thing to do, and it represents a tremendous business opportunity."

In turn, Mr Tom Kuster, DT Solar's CEO, said that they were"delighted to partner with a business leader of Ted Turner's caliber.Ted has a passion for protecting the environment, an incredible vision and a proven ability to build a successful business enterprise.
