Trina Solar Science & Technology (Thailand) Ltd will build a $160 million manufacturing facility at Rayong, Thailand, which is expected to commence production in late 2015 or eraly 2016.
“Thailand is an ideal location for us to build a new manufacturing base due to its proximity to key emerging markets in the Asia Pacific region as well as its favorable investment environment in terms of land acquisition and labour costs” said Mr. Zhiguo Zhu, COO and President of Module Business Unit of Trina Solar. “The new factory will serve to diversify and expand Trina Solar's existing manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand from both our established key markets and emerging markets.”
Mr Zhu added that diversifying Trina’s global manufacturing capacity will allow the company to better leverage resources more effectively as well as enhancing its competitiveness in overseas markets and enabling it to increase its global market share.
Thailand is an increasingly attractive market for Trina Solar because of its level of solar irradiation, long-term PV subsidies and favourable policy environment. The company expects the new facility to help create jobs in the country and support local economic development in addition to aiding further development of the Thai solar industry.
