NAPIT believes that recent statements by Amber Rudd, the new Energy and Climate Change Secretary at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), promising to deliver a solar revolution during her tenure mean solar PV has a promising future.
Over the course of the last year, solar PV installations have increased dramatically in the UK, making the country the largest growth market for solar in Europe. In 2014, generation of solar electricity in the UK doubled compared with the previous year.
“To maintain the recent growth of solar PV, NAPIT are pushing for continued stable Government support through the Feed in Tariff (FiT)” said David Cowburn, Managing Director of NAPIT Certification. “This would enable the domestic market for solar PV to continue on the trajectory to cost-neutral and no longer need Government support, providing a stable future for solar PV installers.”
Mr Cowburn added that in order to ensure this happens, the government must leave the UK’s Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme untouched thereby allowing continued growth while managing costs through effective degression. NAPIT has recently published campaign infographics summarising the FiT policy, setting out potential risks and proposals to mitigate them.
NAPIT offers MCS certification for renewable energy installers as well as training courses.
