In a related move the company, which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia (Canada) executed a 40-year land lease with the Puerto Rico Land Authority for a 401-acre parcel located within the municipality of Yabucoa in Puerto Rico.
An Environmental Impact Statement is being prepared by a third party as part of the re-zoning process before the Puerto Rico Planning Board. In a statement on its web site, Western Wind said it anticipates that construction of the project to begin before the end of the year.
Western Wind Energy produces clean, renewable energy from more than 500 wind turbine generators located in Tehachapi and San Gorgonio Pass, California (US)., and it also has operations in the US state of Arizona and Ontario, Canada.
Currently, Western Wind Energy's annual energy output is approximately 34.5 MW.
