The 20-year contract guarantees a supply of renewable energy to Amazon, which, as co-founder of The Climate Pledge, has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040.
Funaki solar plant has a capacity of 14 MW. Construction on the facility began in 2024 and will generate approximately 18,686 MWh per year. It is expected to become operational by mid-2025, contributing to Japan’s net-zero emissions target by 2050.
“This agreement exemplifies how growing energy demand in sectors like cloud computing and digitalisation can align with the global renewable transition” said Mirko Molinari, X-Elio’s Chief Commercial Officer. “X-Elio is proud to support corporates like Amazon in their journey towards decarbonisation”.
This PPA between X-Elio and Amazon not only strengthens X-Elio’s position in the Japanese renewable market but also furthers the shared vision of accelerating Japan’s transition to a low-carbon future.
