Moreover, these latest fields will use the SENERtrough company-patented parabolic trough collector technology, which is already being used to great success in several commercial plants in operation.
The Aste 1A and Aste 1B plants, owned by Elecnor and involving AMB-Umbro and Aries, will be commissioned in Cuidad Real. Sener is responsible for the engineering and construction of the solar fields for these facilities, which consist of two solar thermal electric plants of 50 MW each. Both boast a total surface area of 784,800 m2 of parabolic trough mirrors. Sener is involved in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of the parabolic trough metal structures for the 120 loops making up each of the plants, which will enter commercial operation in late 2012.
The Aste plants are being constructed through an EPC or “turnkey” contract, as is the case with the solar fields for the Termosolar Soluz Guzmán, Consol-Orellana and La Africana solar thermal plants.
Termosolar Soluz Guzmán, owned by Guzmán Energy, has a capacity of 50 MW and is located in the town of Palma del Rio, Cordoba. Sener is involved in the design, procurement, inspection, logistics, supply, installation, assembly, commissioning and testing of 96 complete parabolic trough loops. It is expected to be operational by mid-2012.
Consol-Orellana is owned by Acciona Energy, has a capacity of 50 MW and also uses parabolic trough technology. It is being built in the town of Orellana La Vieja in the province of Badajoz. Sener is involved in the engineering, supply and installation of parabolic trough metal structures for the plant’s 124 loops, which will be operational in late-2012.
Another solar thermal electric plant is being developed in Palma del Rio called La Africana. It is owned by Magtel, TSK and Ortiz, has a nameplate capacity of 50 MW, and will be completed and operating by the end of next year. Its solar field is made up of 168 solar collector loops.
