Combining IBNE’s flexible assets with IONATE’s visibility and power-flow control technology addresses the UK’s key issues around energy intermittency and reliability that arise from the deployment of large-scale renewables. This is essential to achieving the UK’s Net Zero goals.
The parties have concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which sets out a framework through which IONATE’s Hybrid Intelligent Transformer (HIT) technology can be deployed across IBNE’s portfolio of flexible power generation and battery storage projects in the United Kingdom. The first such deployment is expected to be a pilot project launching in 2023. Further deployment across IBNE’s portfolio will follow.
As the UK endeavours to meet its Net Zero targets, a once-in-a-generation overhaul of energy generation is underway. This has created new requirements for large-scale renewables and innovative approaches to energy storage, flexible generation and power-flow control to ensure reliable operation of the power grid.
By integrating IONATE’s HIT technology, which provides real-time data and comprehensive power-flow control through its hardware-software innovation, IBNE will build the most productive, reliable, and flexible assets in order to maximise its contribution to achieving the UK’s Net Zero goals.
“We are delighted to have commenced this collaboration with IONATE, a truly innovative partner that shares our vison of deploying technology to deliver a flexible and efficient energy system for the UK” said William Andrews, IBNE’s CEO. “The journey to Net Zero remains challenging and collaborations, like this one, are essential if we are to deliver more sustainable, secure and ultimately cheaper energy. Together, we are enabling UK’s Net Zero future.”
IONATE’s CEO Matthew Williams, added that IONATE is an enabling technology at its core: that maximises not simply asset productivity, but the range of possibilities that connected assets can be used for in delivering a flexible and responsive energy system.
“Storage is an essential pillar of our sustainable energy future and highly synergistic with what we do at IONATE” said Mr Williams. “We are excited that in IBNE we have found a visionary collaborator in this field.”
