MyNu Energy is Transforming Used EV Batteries into Future Power Solution

In a groundbreaking ESG initiative, MyNu Energy, a Queensland-based company, is repurposing EV batteries to deliver cutting-edge, cost-effective mass energy storage solutions. The company's inaugural commercial deployment in Brisbane last month marks the beginning of a new era in renewable sustainable energy.

MyNu Energy is eliminating waste from the world's renewable energy pursuit. By giving a second life to EV batteries that would otherwise be recycled for minerals or worse still, discarded, they are pioneering the next generation of sustainable energy storage.

This innovative approach not only reduces costs by up to a third compared to alternatives but also opens up a wide range of applications—from replacing diesel generators to providing grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), and even creating portable power solutions for remote and microgrid applications or in the event of disaster management.

Founded by industry veterans John Myler and Shaun Nugent, MyNu Energy blends extensive experience with a bold vision for the future. Shaun, the owner and CEO of the Phronis Group, brings over 30 years of delivery experience of major infrastructure projects, including power infrastructure and renewable energy systems. John, a seasoned CEO in the insurance industry, was drawn to the venture by the profound impact it could have on Australia's net zero journey.

"Each 20 ft container we deploy houses 18 EV batteries, offering 1MWh of storage capacity, with scalability up to 100MWh or more," Shaun explains. "Our solutions have been designed for rapid deployment, adaptable to various environments, and deliver exceptional power quality."

MyNu Energy also offers flexible acquisition options, including a fully maintained lease plan with terms ranging from 1 to 10 years, making it an attractive choice for businesses looking to adopt sustainable practices without upfront costs.

"Our goal is to fully utilize the life and potential of EV batteries, ensuring up to 10 or more additional years of use and minimising environmental impact," John states.

"As the market for electric vehicles grows, the challenge of managing end-of-life batteries will become increasingly significant. We aim to provide a responsible and innovative solution."

The company has also developed a smaller, highly portable battery trailer capable of storing 120KWh—sufficient to power an average home for six days. This versatile solution is perfect for events, emergency backup, or any situation requiring reliable, off-grid power.

The company is poised to partner with forward-thinking companies looking for a practical edge and an economical solution to pursue their ESG goals.
