Planning applications for both sites were submitted in January, with a decision on each expected later this year.
Stepping up the move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy is a crucial step to helping the UK reach its net zero goals, and battery storage sites play an important role in achieving this. YLEM Energy's battery sites can store the energy supplied by renewable energy projects and release it to the grid when demand is high, ready for use when needed.
Storing energy in batteries also helps to keep costs low as energy is released to the grid when costs would normally be high during peak periods, meaning pressure on the grid is also eased as supply and demand are more evenly distributed.
Commenting on the new sites, Ian Gadsby, Managing Director at YLEM Energy, said, "We're excited to have submitted planning applications for these two BESS sites, bringing our ready to build storage capacity to 750MW. Battery storage sites play a vital role in freeing up pressure on the grid and providing flexible electricity and will help the UK achieve its renewable future."
