The company's new manufacturing center, with cutting-edge technology, has required an investment of 180 m euros and will feature an area of 38,000 sq meters. In it, Isofotón is also planning to produce up to 180 MW of solar PV cells.
Mr Manuel Chaves, President of the Andalusian government, and other regional politicians visited the company's headquarters in the Málaga technological park last week.
The politicians were welcomed by Mr Jaime Gorbeña, President of the Bergé group, which owns Isofotón, and Mr José Luis Manzano, CEO of the firm.
During the visit, Mr Chaves highlighted that Isofotón is a company that shows a clear commitment to technological innovation, research and interconnection of business, research centers and universities. The Andalusian President said that the firm has set an example for private investors, and recalled the fact that the company is now building a silicon production center that will employ 300 staff.
Isofotón has operations in more than 60 countries, and has nine subsidiaries (Italy, USA, Bolivia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Algeria, Morocco, Senegal and China). The firm exported 40% of its production in 2007, and it invested 18 m euros in its research and development activities, totalling 6% of its yearly revenues.
