Rivanna Solar is the company's first project in Virginia and within Dominion Energy’s and PJM’s territories and marks a strategic expansion aligning with the company’s long-term vision to bolster clean energy infrastructure across new US regions.

Power demand in Virginia is growing at higher levels than any time since World War II, in large part due to the state’s data centre boom, necessitating the buildout of new utility-scale renewable generation. Rivanna Solar is projected to produce over 21,000 MWh of clean energy annually, enough to power thousands of homes and businesses across the region, and will support Virginia on its path to 100 percent clean energy to support local and regional needs.

“Rivanna Solar will contribute to Virginia’s goal of using clean power to meet surging demand for energy from rapidly growing data center capacity” said Zack Zoller, VP of Engineering, Procurement and Construction at Adapture Renewables. “Having successfully navigated development through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, this project reinforces our commitment to resilient, sustainable energy projects that serve local communities.”

Supported by incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act, the Charlottesville solar project highlights meaningful engagement with local contractors, the Charlottesville community, and the landowner. The project is expected to stimulate local economic growth, supporting over 150 local jobs during its development and construction phases.

Upon completion of the solar farm’s operational term, the land is anticipated to return to timber farming, having benefited from decades of natural rejuvenation.
