ADES is best known for its range of solar trackers, having installing over 150 MW and 5,000+ trackers since 2004. However, it has now moved into the wind energy market, after developing a unique type of wind turbine. The ADES wind turbine includes three passive mechanical systems: a swivelling single-blade rotor, a pendulum power train and a self-steering nacelle. The design compensates, accumulates and reinstates wind speed variations, preventing them from affecting the evenness of generator rotation and subsequently diminishing structural overload and power peaks caused by wind gusts.
The presentation models have power outputs of 100 and 250 kW, while ADES plans on releasing a 1.3 MW turbine of similar design in 2012. According to ADES, “the turbine can be utilized in new plants, in limited and off-grid areas, in conjunction with other forms of energy generation, and in the re-powering of wind farms using the existing infrastructure.”
ADES announces that it already has supply contracts for the wind turbines in Colombia (South America) and Letonia, and hopes that the official launch at Wind PowerExpo will generate new enquiries for 2010.
