The special purpose vehicle Brasventos is a joint venture between majority interest holder Malucelli Energia, Eletrobras Eletronorte and Eletrobras Furnas.
“This contract, our biggest wind project in Brazil to date, is a great endorsement of our leading wind turbine technology and project execution capabilities,” said Alfonso Faubel, Alstom Power’s wind business vice president.
“The projects will support the government’s commitment to develop Brazil’s wind power market and further reinforces Alstom’s position as Brazil’s leading supplier of clean energy solutions,” he said.
Levallois-Perret-based Alstom, a leading provider of power generation and transportation equipment, will supply, install, commission and provide long-term servicing of its Eco 86 wind turbines, which will be manufactured in the company’s new plant in Bahia, Brazil.
Other supplies will come from Alstom's plant in Buñuel, Spain.
The wind farms, to be located in Rio Grande do Norte State in the north-east of Brazil, are forecast to produce in the region of 580,000 MWh of power each year.
They will have the combined capacity to power more than 100,000 local households in Brazil, while leading to carbon savings of 300,000 tonnes.
Alstom has had a presence in Brazil for over 55 years, providing close to half of the country’s power generation equipment. It won a €100m contract in mid-2010 to build a 90 MW wind farm for Brazilian power company Desenvix.
