Apple chooses Montaque Wind Power to energize Oregon data center

A wind energy system to be built by Montague Wind Power will provide energy to help power an Apple data center in Prineville, Oregon. The project, which will be located in Gilliam County, is scheduled to begin construction in September of this year with energy generating late in 2018.

Once completed, the system will be capable of producing 404 MWs of electrical power, with Apple purchasing approximately 200 MWs.

Apple also stated it has a deal to buy power from a 56-megawatt project called Solar Star Oregon II, under construction a few miles from the Prineville complex. In addition to solar and wind, the data center will also derive energy from two hydropower projects that can generate a combined 12 million KWhs of electricity.
