The decision was taken by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU). It has the potential to generate billions of dollars in economic activity state-wide, creating lasting opportunities in all 21 counties of New Jersey. The BPU’s selected bid provides a path for Attentive Energy Two to invest some $105 million in local communities, building on Corio’s legacy of supporting projects that create jobs, prioritise biodiversity, and provide financial opportunity for ratepayers and project developers. The windfarm is expected to be commissioned in 2031.
The decision by the BPU comes several months after the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) selected the nearby 1.4 GW Attentive Energy One project, a joint venture between Corio, TotalEnergies and Rise Light and Power, for a provisional 25-year award in October 2023. Both Attentive Energy projects are on seabed lease OCS-A 0538, a site secured by TotalEnergies in the February 2022 New York Bight Auction.
“The award of this long-term contract is a great achievement for Attentive Energy and great news for the people of New Jersey” said Jonathan Cole, CEO of Corio Generation. “The Attentive Energy Two project will deliver clean, green energy to hundreds of thousands of New Jersey residents and stimulate billions of dollars of regional investment. Added together, our Attentive Energy projects could deliver almost 3 GW of renewable electricity to the Atlantic east coast, allowing Corio and our partners to make a milestone contribution to the United States’ transition to a secure, renewable and low-carbon energy future.”
