A key focus of the partnership is empowering women and girls to pursue careers in renewable energy, using the leadership role of the queen bee as an inspiring metaphor. The initiative includes the installation of a Bute Energy-branded beehive housing 20,000 bees, reinforcing both companies' commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.
Onshore wind developer Bute Energy is developing projects across Wales and its collaboration with Bee1 is intended to not only tackling the climate crisis but also leaving a lasting legacy of responsible energy development that benefits both the natural world and local people.
“As a company proudly headquartered in Wales, Bute Energy is delighted to partner with Bee1, a pioneering organisation from Wales that shares our commitment to sustainability and community engagement” said Catryn Newton, Director of Community Investment and Communications at Bute Energy. “This collaboration is a testament to our dedication to driving forward Wales's transition to a clean, green future, while also supporting bold and innovative Welsh businesses.”
A key element of the partnership is the shared commitment to empowering women and girls with regard to the pursuit of careers in the renewable energy sector. The two companies will visit two of Bute’s community partners in the coming months, highlighting the queen bee's leadership role within the hive, using it as a powerful metaphor for female leadership in business. This initiative aims to inspire the next generation of women to assume leadership roles in the net-zero future.
“At Bee1, we're deeply committed to fostering sustainability, biodiversity, and female leadership within our communities” added Mark Douglas, Founder of Bee1. “Partnering with Bute Energy is an exciting step forward in our mission to protect the environment and inspire future generations. Together, we are not only safeguarding vital pollinators like bees but also empowering women and girls to lead in the renewable energy sector. This collaboration exemplifies our shared vision of a sustainable future for Wales, where innovation and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.”
Bute Energy has installed a Bute Energy-branded beehive housing 20,000 bees, purchased from Bee1, as part of the partnership. This initiative aligns with Bute Energy’s broader efforts to support biodiversity and ensure the survival of these vital pollinators, which are essential to maintaining a stable climate and a thriving economy.
Bees are critical to the pollination of 75 percent of the crops consumed by humans, playing a crucial role in the health of ecosystems and the global food supply. However, bee populations are in severe decline, posing a significant risk to the environment and the economy. The collaboration with Bee1 represents a meaningful step towards reversing this trend and securing a sustainable future for Wales.
“I’m grateful to Mark and the team at Bee1 for supporting us in our mission to increase the number of women and girls pursuing careers in renewables” said Ms Newton. “This partnership has drawn our attention to the important role of females in the hive and how we can draw comparisons between their qualities and the resilience and leadership women bring to the world of business. I look forward to sharing these powerful lessons with our staff and partners in the community.”
The partnership between Bute Energy and Bee1 is intended to create a powerful synergy, combining Bute Energy’s expertise in renewable energy development with Bee1’s knowledge in biodiversity and environmental education. Together, they are poised to make a significant impact on the environment, the economy, and future generations.
