The two wind farms, known as Cupisnique and Talara, will have an installed capacity of approximately 114MW and when complete will be the first large scale wind farms ever built in the country as well as being the largest wind farms operating in South America outside Brazil.
The output from the two wind farms will be sold under 20-year power purchase agreements through Peru’s RER program. ContourGlobal has contracted with Vestas Corporation to provide a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) with a total expected investment of US $250 million.
Cupisnique is located in the province of Capamayo in La Libertad region approximately 1,095 km from Lima, Peru’s capital. The wind farm will use 45 1.8MW Vestas V100 wind turbines. The other wind farm, Talara, is located in the Piura region about 670 km from Lima. Talara will use 17 V100 turbines. Both wind farms will transport electricity to the national grid via a new substation and transmission line.
“These two projects tap into Peru’s vast renewable resource potential and complement our regional generation and renewable footprint in Brazil and Colombia” said Joseph C. Brandt, ContourGlobal’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
