According to E.On, once fully operational, the wind farm located in the Solway Firth in Scotland will produce enough electricity to supply 120,000 homes. "With over 1000 MW of projects in operation and construction, E.On has developed the skills to tackle the main challenges of the offshore wind business" said Frank Mastiaux, CEO of E.On Climate & Renewables."
The company already operates two other offshore wind farms: the 60 MW Scroby Sands wind farm also in the UK, and the 166 MW Nysted wind farm off the coast of Denmark which is operated in collaboration with local utility company Dong Energy. E.On is also constructing the 200 MW Rödsand II offshore wind farm, which is expected to be connected next year, and is also developing the 60 MW Alpha Ventus wind farm in the German North Sea alongside Vattenfall and EWE, which will use 5 MW turbines.
The November edition of Energías Renovables, Renewable Energy Magazine’s Spanish sister publication, includes an in-depth report on the much awaited ramping up of the offshore wind sector, with a special focus on the strength of German companies.
