Gode Wind is Germany’s largest offshore wind farm and is located 45 kilometres from the mainland and around 33 kilometres from the islands of Juist and Norderney. The monopoles now being installed for the foundations have a diameter of 7.5 metres. The longest of them is 67 metres long and has a weight of 939 tonnes, making it the biggest and heaviest monopile ever to be installed in the German North Sea.
“It's extremely satisfying to see that Gode Wind's first foundation has been installed” said Trine Borum Bojsen, Managing Director from DONG Energy in Germany. “This is not only a milestone for DONG Energy and a step closer to our goal of installing 6.5GW by 2020; it's also a milestone for Germany in pushing forward the energy transition.”
A total of 97 foundations will be installed in water with a depth of around 33 metres. The project is the largest single investment ever made by DONG Energy.
