The new turbine incorporates the knowledge and experience acquired during the validation of the 5.0MW platform which culminated recently with the receipt of type certification for the G128-5.0 MW from independent expert DNV-GL, as well as tapping its proven and tested technology.
The turbine has a blade length of 64.5 metres and a rotor diameter of 132 metres. It generates 3 percent more power than the G128-5.0MW model and is designed with redundant modules for increased reliability and maximisation of energy output. The turbine’s light weight is designed to reduce the cost of related wind farm civil engineering work. It will be capable of generating enough energy to supply 5,000 households per year.
Certification of the turbine is due for completion in 2015.
