The projects - Baglama, Tayakadin, Yalova and Pazarkoy - will provide enough renewable power for 195,000 homes, saving up to 650,000 tons of CO2. The 156 blades will be manufactured at GE’s LM Wind Power factory in Bergama, Turkey where GE has more than 550 employees. Towers will also be produced in the country. The project also includes a 10-year servicing agreement.
GE already has an installed base of 1.2 GW of wind energy in Turkey and has built 500 wind turbines built in the country, including the 350 MW of onshore wind energy projects that Fina Enerji and GE Renewable Energy have built together.
“Our new wind farm projects will increase our installed capacity from 350 MW to 543 MW” said Murat Özyeğin, Chairman of the Board of Fiba Group, the owner of Fina Enerji. “Baglama Project will be the easternmost wind farm investment in Turkey and we are particularly proud to contribute to the economic development in this region. We are pleased to sustain our partnership with GE and to contribute to our country's renewable energy targets.”
Manar Al-Moneef, President & CEO, Onshore Wind, Middle East, North Africa & Turkey, added that GE has been one of the early investors in Turkey and continues its commitment to create jobs and contribute to the development of high technology in the energy industry.
