A growing number of manufactures are realising that the certification of individual wind turbine components is as important as that of the complete wind turbine. This certification is based on the latest edition of the GL Guideline for the Certification of Wind Turbines.
“I would congratulate CQWJ for gaining GL RC's design certification once again and I am proud of our long-term partnership in contributing to the safe and profitable operation of wind turbines,” said Mr. Mike Woebbeking, GL RC Vice President and Head of Certification Body.
CQWJ is one of the first gearbox manufacturers in China to be certified by GL RC and it has earned several Statements of Compliance in A-Design Assessment for its wind turbine gearboxes. “GL RC's certification process is well known in the industry for its rigorousness, and we insist that every newly developed gearbox obtain GL's A-Design certification to ensure we reach a world-class level in gearbox design and manufacturing quality,” said Mr Guangfu Li, Managing Director CQWJ.
“The 2-MW wind turbine gearbox is the fourth innovative product which CQWJ has developed on its own, and it is one of the best gearboxes of this kind worldwide, in terms of its reliability and efficiency,” added Mr. Li. “GL RC certification is a good testament to its uniqueness and value. CQWJ has taken another key step forward, leaping from 'China manufacturing' to 'China Creation' and 'China Design'.”
As wind turbines increase in size, the failure of such key components as gearboxes, bearings, rotor blades or generators, can lead to huge losses for the different stakeholders involved. “As a result of this greater size and complexity, turbine manufacturers and components suppliers around the world are finding that their clients are increasing demanding certification of a wide variety of turbine components,” pointed out Mr. Woebbeking.
GL RC has long been certifying these most heavily loaded components. Design Assessment, together with the other three modules, namely, evaluation of manufacturing and installation processes, internal quality management system, and prototype testing, constitutes a component certification process. If all requirements in these four modules are successfully fulfilled, a type certificate can be issued.
