IMPSA, a leader in wind power investment and generation in Latin America has announced plans to expand its operations into the Uruguayan market.
The Argentinean company dedicated to providing solutions in the field of alternative energy sources will open a Service Centre in Uruguay that will provide operations and maintenance support for wind turbines to be installed in the country. Moreover, the company’s management plans that this new venture will not only allow industrial components manufactured in Uruguay to be integrated into equipment developed by IMPSA, but should also create high value added jobs and training opportunities to local people in the regions where its wind turbines are installed.
IMPSA decided to start operations in Uruguay after more than a year of negotiations with players from Uruguayan industry and in response to expected state renewable energy tenders.
This latest project sees IMPSA expanding its presence in Latin America, where it already has developments in several countries making it a leader in wind energy investment and generation in the region with 1 GW of power, 530 MW of which is located in Brazil and the remainder in future developments in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile.
The turbines produced by IMPSA are entirely designed by engineers at the company who are specialised in the different types of regional wind. For example, the model IWP-70, with a 70-metre rotor diameter, was especially designed for the strong S-Class winds of Patagonia, while the IWP-100 model, with a rotor diameter of 100 metres, was designed for conditions of low turbulence and high average wind speeds prevailing in some areas of Brazil.
