London 2012 will get energy from a giant wind turbine

London's Olympic Games in 2012 will get electricity from a giant wind turbine, 120 meters tall, which will aim to become one of the symbols of the city, according to some of the members of the Olympic Committee 5% of the electricity used by the olympic stadium will be provided by a wind turbine taller than the Big Ben, Nelson Column in Trafaltar Square or Saint Paul´s Cathedral.

The turbines will be 40 meter long and will be able to power 1200 homes, according to Mr David Higgins, an Executive from the Olympic Committee.

"The turbine will be a green lighthouse, an ecological milestone for the capital", he added. “It will be an extraordinary symbol, an olympic icon. A statement that the works are possible", said Lord Coe, President of the Games Organizational Committee.

The construction works will begin in 2008 and will be completed by 2010. It will be Britain's second tallest turbine, behind 126-meter tall Ness Point, in Suffolk.
