The complete unit will be towed to Portugal and installed about 20 km from the Viana do Castelo coast (Portugal), in waters 100 m deep. The semi-submersible unit is similar to those used in the oil sector: triangular base of 70 m on each side and columns 12 m in diameter and 30 m in height at the vertex.
The stability of the structure is achieved by an automated ballast system. The estimated construction hours are about 250,000 and the project is expected to generate about 100 jobs on average.
This project solidifies the Joint Venture of Navantia-Windar as a manufacturer of offshore wind power worldwide, being the only shipyard that has designed the two most mature concepts in this industry at a technological level: Hywind and Windfloat.
