New large turbine orders for GE Energy

GE Energy has recently inked an impressive $ 1 billion in wind turbines orders, after a recent $ 730 million order from Energias de Portugal.

The order from Energias de Portugal (EdP) is made up of 281 turbines for projects to be developed at both sides of the Atlantic Ocean during the next two years. This piece of news comes after GE Energy having reported a $ 350 m order from Third Planet Windpower.

The Portuguese company will receive the orders through NeoEnergia and Horizon Wind Energy LLC, its European and American wind subsidiaries, respectively. In Europe, the company will receive eighty 2.5 MW turbines whereas in America it will receive an impressive two hundred and one 1.5 MW turbines.

"In the U.S. and around the world, we continue to see strong interest in the production of cleaner, wind-generated electricity," said Mr Victor Abate, VicePresident of renewables for GE Energy. "In the U.S. alone, more than 2,400 megawatts of new wind power was installed in 2006 while worldwide, more than 15,000 megawatts were installed, according to the Global Wind Energy Council", he added.
