In addition, the Hamburg-based company also has its eye on Poland and Bulgaria, where it believes there is tremendous growth opportunity, according to a written statement posted on its website.
The two unidentified customers in Romania have each ordered four N100/2500 turbines along with long-term Service Agreements. The wind farms are due to start operation by the end of 2011 and will serve as references for future business in Romania.
According to Nordex, the wind market potential of Romania is excellent, and the company expects that by the end of 2015 wind turbines with output of more than 3,000 MW will be in operation there.
“Our target is to achieve a significant market share,” said Nordex CSO Lars Bondo Krogsgaard. “The first projects are providing us with important experience for this. Being confident of the good prospects of the Romanian renewable energy market, we plan to set up a branch in the coming months.”
Apart from Romania, Nordex is particularly focused on Poland, where it is already active through a subsidiary.
To date, Nordex Polska has connected 93 MW of wind power to the national grid, and another 50 Mw are expected to be connected by the end of the year.
In future the company expects to supply Poland with more than 100 Mw a year, the statement said.
One important growth driver will be Nordex´ new large N117/2400 wind turbine which is a perfect match to low wind sites, the company said.
