The Bergama project located in the municipal district with the same name around 50 kilometres north of Izmir, is the second Bilgin Enerji has adjudicated to Nordex. The 36 wind turbines will be installed at an average height of 650 metres in an area with average wind speeds of approximately 9 m/s. Nordex estimate that this wind resource is enough to produce 300 GW per annum.
This figure translates into a very high power factor, specifically 38% (i.e. the wind farm’s annual production, after taking into account peaks and troughs in production, will be equivalent to 38% of production at full capacity). The power factor in Spain for instance – a country with close to 17,000 MW of installed wind capacity – is only 27%.
The first contract Bilgin Enerji granted to Nordex a year ago was for the Mazi III wind farm. This 22.5 MW project is located near Cesme and is currently being built. Nordex plans to install “up to 200 MW” in Turkey during 2009.
