China will account for almost a third of the global wind market in the 2020s and is projected to install more wind capacity than the next five largest markets combined. To support this growth, the Chinese wind sector will need to invest in a robust, globally-proven aftermarket services infrastructure. Advanced data analytics to deliver substantial efficiency gains are a crucial foundation for continued competitiveness across the market, particularly as China accelerates its net zero ambitions.
The new office in Shanghai, set to open in Q2 2021, will share resources with Onyx InSight’s established offices in Korea, India and Australia, co-developing global customers and enabling an integrated approach to servicing the wind sector across the wider region. The office already has expansion plans in place for 2022.
“Onyx InSight has existing experience in the market, having completed several due diligence and engineering projects with its partners in China” said Dr. Zhiwei Zhang, VP Sales and Engineering for China and US, Onyx InSight. “To ensure rapid integration the business is leveraging its current relationships with major owners, OEMs and local partners – ultimately bringing a new level of expertise in data analytics to enable better strategic decision-making for China’s wind farm operators.”
Yuan Huang, Engineering Manager for China, Onyx InSight, added that China is gearing up to be the world’s dominant market over the next 20 years and that the world’s net zero goals depend on the success of Chinese renewables to a large degree.
“Empowering the country’s rapidly expanding wind sector by delivering greater oversight of asset health to wind farm owners and operators will be crucial in unlocking lower energy costs and further growth” said Mr Huang.
