In an interview with Bloomberg’s Alex Morales, Vestas CEO Ditley Engel said the next generation turbine will be unveiled in London on 30 March, but declined to give further details.
Engel went on to say that the Randers, Denmark-based company has yet to decide whether to build an offshore wind turbine factory in the UK. Both Siemens AG and Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologica SA, Vestas’ rivals in the wind sector, recently announced plans to open plants there.
“You’re not going to see installation before 2014/2015,” Engel said, referring to licenses granted under the UK’s third round of offshore permitting. “It would take us maybe a year to build a plant. We’ll see how these things evolve.”
