Siemens will take over the supply from GE Renewable Energy, which announced on Tuesday it would provide and service Haliade 150-6MW turbines to the first French EMF offshore wind farm but would terminate its exclusive supplier status on the two other projects carried out by EMF.
In a press release, GE said the decision was made “due to the cumulative excessive delays since 2012 on these projects, related to these claims, which significantly impacted the financial characteristics of those projects for GE Renewable Energy.”
The agreement between Siemens and EMF includes a future provision for Siemens Gamesa to perform wind turbine service for a period up to 15 years also subject to contract and EMF’s final investment decision.
SGRE’s planned offshore wind turbine manufacturing facility currently under development in the Port of Le Havre will produce the turbines for the consortium's projects.
“We thank EMF and its shareholders for their trust. Siemens Gamesa remains fully committed to meeting the needs of all its customers and ensuring that these projects are a success for the sector and for France,” said Markus Tacke, CEO of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.
