The uprated turbine is part of Siemens strategy for lowering the costs of wind power. At the annual European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) trade fair (2014) in Barcelona, this week (10th to 13th March), the company will be showing how the uprated performance of its state-of-the-art direct-drive D3 wind turbines extract higher energy yields.
Exhibiting under the slogan “Watts up!” Siemens will be presenting the new onshore 3.2MW wind turbine which the company says, depending on the location, can deliver up to 4 percent higher annual yield than its predecessor. Siemens has uprated the turbine by improving the turbine control system.
“One important goal of our development work is to utilize innovation to further tap the technical potential of our products” said Henrik Stiesdal, CTO of Siemens Wind Power, who explained the technical possibilities in detail at a press conference on Tuesday. Stiesdal will also be chairing the presentations on “Hardware Technology” at the accompanying EWEA Conference while other experts from Siemens will give talks at the conference on topics such as energy storage technology and electrical systems.
