J-Wind Setana is actually a joint venture between Electric Power Development Co. and Hokutaku Co. The Setana Osato wind farm, which will have a total capacity of 50 MW, will be installed in Setana town in the east of Hokkaido Island. After commissioning in 2018, Siemens will also be responsible for the service and maintenance of the wind turbines within the framework of a long-term service contract.
“We are proud to provide our cutting edge direct-drive wind turbines to the wind project Setana Osato” said Thomas Richterich, CEO Onshore at Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division. “Our advanced technology solutions are well suited for the Japanese wind power market and will support to enhance cost competitiveness of wind power in the country.”
Since 1999 Siemens has installed a total of 200 MW in Japan, receiving its first orders for direct drive wind turbines in 2013 for the Eurus Akita Port wind farm. The company also supplied the Eurus Yurikogen wind power plant with 17 direct-drive wind turbines. In April 2016, Siemens announced another order over 13 direct-drive wind turbines for the Higashi Yurihara wind power plant.
