The combined order volume for all six projects is more than $900 million. With a total capacity of over 670 MW, the wind power facilities will the wind power plants will following commissioning supply eco-friendly electricity to more than 200,000 households.
"The latest orders from North America show that our customers are continuing to invest in renewables," said Felix Ferlemann, CEO of the Wind Power Division of Siemens Energy. "Wind power is a business sector with a high growth rate worldwide and creates jobs in the areas of production, installation and service."
Since entering the US wind power market in 2005, Siemens has already created approximately 1800 jobs there.
In addition to a rotor blade manufacturing facility in Fort Madison, Iowa, a nacelle production plant in Hutchinson, Kansas, and service centers in Goldendale, Washington and in Houston, Texas, the company has scheduled to open a wind service distribution center this year in Woodward, Oklahoma, and a distribution and tooling center in Wichita, Kansas. Before the end of this year, Siemens will also produce rotor blades in Tillsonburg in Canada.
Siemens has a cumulative installed capacity of more than 4,800 MW in North America. The company is a strong number two in the US wind market today and also holds a leading position in Canada, with the number one position in the Ontario wind market.
In South America, Siemens Energy is gaining a foothold in the wind market. The company will be installing 2.3-MW wind turbines for three wind projects with a combined capacity of 312 megawatts (MW) in Brazil in 2012 and 2013.
