The 17.5MW Cerna wind farm incorporates 7 GE 2.5MW wind turbines and is located in the province of Tulcea, Dobrogea, Romania. Each turbine has a height of 98.3 metres at the hub with 100 metre diameter rotors. The foundations measure 16.2 metres in diameter incorporating 600 cubic metres of reinforced concrete and 60,000 kilogrammes of steel.
The wind farm will generate 43,185MWh per year, enough energy to supply over 13,000 Romanian households while displacing 7,054 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The project has been funded by the EU through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Sectoral Operational Programme for Romania entitled “Operational Programme Increase of Economic Competitiveness”.
Bester Generación is the main contractor for civil works and the supply and installation of wind turbines. It is aiming to expand its presence in the wind energy sector and has recently been looking at existing plants in Europe and Latin American with an intention to begin building more wind farms in the very near future.
The company develops renewable energy technologies for sustainable development, concentrating mainly on provision of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services for renewable energy projects all over the world.
