Surus Inversa dismantling Spanish wind farm, liquidating assets

The wind farm, located in the town of Coruña Malpica, built in 1997 and was a milestone in the development of the wind energy sector in the country.

It is owned by Elecnor (71%), the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy-IDAE (27%) and the Xunta de Galicia (2%).

However, given its age, the owners are now seeking to modernize the park and is replacing its current 69 wind turbines with seven newer, and more productive models. When the project is completed, the wind farm will continue its current output about 16.5 MW.

Surus Inversa is dismantling the old turbines and putting them up for sale through its Escrapalia online auction site.

In addition to the wind turbines, the auction will include towers of various heights and equipment from the processing centers that serve to raise the voltage of electricity generated by the mills.

All interested buyers can visit the facilities during 14 and 21 September, the company said in a written release.

Surus Inversa said all of the purchased equipment is being prepared for immediate loading and transportation to their new locations.

The company is reducing the number of turbines on Malpica de Bergantiños wind farm site in order to curb its visual and noise impacts. It said the new turbines being deployed on the land are not only more efficient, but are also much quieter than the models installed nearly two decades ago.

The turbines being offered for sale are all in good condition and Surus Inversa said the auction will allow them to have a second life and to continue to provide clean energy for the communities they'll eventually serve.
