The project will consist of 48 Suzlon S97-2.1MW wind turbines incorporating Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) technology. It is the latest addition to Suzlon’s portfolio of over 8000MW across eight states and upon completion will boost India’s wind power capacity to nearly 1000MW.
“India is the fifth largest country in terms of total capacity of installed wind power, with large reserves of untapped potential that spells out a great opportunity for this sector to grow exponentially” said Rajiv Mishra, Managing Director at CLP India. “We have always firmly believed that accelerated development of the Indian wind power sector requires investment across all sources of renewable and conventional energy, which is critical to achieving a certain degree of energy security over a period of time. Wind power has been a key area of thrust for us over the past 4 to 5 years, with a sustained growth of about 200 to 300 MW every year and we are committed to growing it over the next few years as well.”
According to Mr Mahesh Makhija, Renewables Business Development CLP, wind power now forms almost one third of CLP’s entire portfolio in India. CLP India is a leading investor-owned power business in Asia and is also one of the largest foreign-owned investors in the Indian wind sector.
