The donQui urban wind turbines comprising the small wind installation have a 1.75-kilowatt power rating and produce 38,000 kilowatt hours per year, equivalent to the energy consumed annually by nine Spanish families, according to Unceta. The eight mini wind turbines are sited on the rooftop of one of the towers of the famous Amoreiras real estate and retail development located in central Lisbon. The facility required an investment of over €100,000 which was contributed by the group of owners of the tower, which mainly houses office space.
Unceta claims that the owners of the system will recover their investment by selling the power produced by the mini wind turbines to the local power utility. Unceta estimates that the owners will receive around €15,000 per annum (in Portugal, the Microgeraçao (Microgeneration) Programme sets a specific feed-in tariff for renewable energy generated by small grid-connected systems). Unceta is defined as "a solely-owned company from Navarre, specialising in energy efficiency and small wind and solar photovoltaic energy generation solutions".
