The 12 Siemens 2MW wind turbines will generate renewable electricity for around 18,000 homes. Work on the project began in 2008 with the construction phase starting on 6th February 2013. The governor of the province of Halland, Lena Sommestad, conducted the official opening of the wind farm.
The turbines have a total height of 150 metres and weigh 400 tonnes. Vattenfall has invested around 500 million Swedish Kronia in the project which is located at Hjuleberg, some 20 km north east of Falkenberg.
“We are both proud and pleased to be able to commission another wind farm” said Torbjörn Wahlborg, head of Vattenfall's Nordic operations. “It will be a welcome addition to our renewable electricity generation capacity.”
The licence for the site was granted by the county administrative board in 2011 and an environmental licence was granted on 13th February 2014, permitting the construction of 12 turbines. According to Eva Vitell, head of wind power projects in Sweden, the site has ideal wind conditions.
